3/3/2007 Europe Day 33: Paris, France - The Lives of Others

Saw a wonderful German movie tonight that you should go see if you haven't already, The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen). The film debut of German Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, it won the 2006 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and 27 other international film prizes - all deserved!

It's the story of a Stasi (East German secret police) agent (Ulrich Mühe) who listens in on a writer and playwrite (Sebastian Koch) as the latter pens an anonymous condemnation of the oppressive social and political conditions in East Germany that lead its citizens to depression, and in elevated numbers to suicide. Wonderful movie - loved it.

And no, today's picture has nothing to do with the film.
